Evidence-Based Education Program for Autism

Picture
Daniel A. Rossignol, M.D., FAAFP, President of the Medical Association of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS)
Bernard Rimland, PhD., father of the biomedical autism movement, helped give vision and direction to the MAPS program which embodies his passion for physician teaching and development.

Drawing from Rimland’s momentum, Daniel Rossignol, MD FAAFP and MAPS President embraces the philosophy of evidence-based research and its application in practice.  Dr. Rossignol’s background as a researcher, coupled with years of practical experience as a clinician, have given him the background needed to develop the growing course of study incorporated in the philosophy of Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs.

As a primary subject matter expert for MAPS, Dr. Rossignol utilizes his experience and knowledge of evidence-based ASD treatment to direct the development of the MAPS fellowship training program and supporting course materials.

Parents seek MAPS practitioners

A common concern that many parents have when seeking biomedical interventions for their child is that the therapies and protocols their physician is recommending may be based on the provider’s private choice.  Parents may feel that their child is not receiving a “full measure” of care.  Previous programs teaching biomedical interventions typically focused on attending a minimum number of prescribed courses, and were never able to look beyond to the practitioner’s actual implementation.  MAPS combines education with mentoring to help physicians implement the MAPS philosophy into their practice.  This is the MAPS difference.

Parents request MAPS providers because

Their children are seeing well-educated professionals who implement biomedical treatments

MAPS’s commitment to oversight and monitoring works to ensure consistent and quality treatment

Providers are required to maintain CME and fellowship requirements

The MAPS Fellowship is a systematic CME program with one purpose...

...to prepare medical professionals to confidentially deliver the best possible care to children with autism spectrum disorders, and other related special needs conditions.

MAPS provides education and long-term support for practitioners, ensuring the quality and uniformity of medical care for children with autism and related medical conditions.
