A letter from Dan Rossignol, M.D., FAAFP President of the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs
Dear Colleague,
We have all heard the statistic that 1 in 88 children in the United States has some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This means that, on average, 1 in 30 households is somehow impacted by this disorder. If you deal with children as a pediatric physician, family doctor, or care for children in any professional practice, your patient base verifies this trend.
Yet, for people like you and I, practicing medical professionals who are left to battle ASD, we need to implement a sound standard of care that is built on scientifically tested and proven methods. That is why I would like to introduce you to MAPS, the Medical Academy of Pediatrics Special Needs. This forward thinking organization is dedicated to establishing, teaching, and supporting the treatment of these children.
MAPS is working with the leading pediatric research institutes, as well as recruiting medical and scientific experts in the fields of Autism Spectrum Disorders and environmental medicine to develop an in-depth, CME approved curriculum, as well as developing one of the largest care-focused treatment database dedicated to this area of practice.
The timely development of this standard of care becomes even more critical when so many parents are turning to the internet for self-education. Many desperate, well intentioned parents are seeking information to get help for their suffering child. Yet, with so many treatments offered to these vulnerable families, they turn to us with their questions, concerns, and hopes for a better life. And we, as concerned physicians, must be prepared.
Yet, the same over-abundance of information is a challenge to us as well. Mining the depths of this information is a task impossible to accomplish alone. That is why this group of physicians and scientists has joined ranks to take on this seemingly insurmountable project of evaluating and disseminating the practical research and established treatments. MAPS is here to help you, the medical professional on the front line, deliver the best care for these children with confidence based on solid fact.
I would like to personally invite you look through these pages to gain a better understanding of the breadth of information and the advantages that comes with association. From solid, respected training and certification, to patient referrals, peer collaboration and professional services support, MAPS offers a range of benefits to all members. We look forward to seeing you at our conferences!
Sincerely,
Dan Rossignol, MD FAAFP President of the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS)
